Students engineer a tower from paper towel rolls, Q-tips, and tape

Science, technology, engineering and math were the main events during Holyoke Community College’s STEM day last Tuesday.

Participating middle school students from Metcalf and Holyoke STEM Academy joined with students from other area schools for hands-on games and activities that helped them think like scientists on the college campus, including math-based origami and LEGO engineering.

HCC's event was part of a larger STEM Week initiative sponsored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. HPS school committee member Dr. Yadilette Rivera-Colón delivered the keynote address to kick off the week at HCC.
