Attendance

We value every student's presence in school, and school is not the same when a student is not here. For all students to fully benefit from learning experiences at school, students should attend school on time, ready to learn, every day.

Holyoke Public Schools set this goal because students who maintain good attendance typically become strong readers and mathematicians and are more likely to graduate on time. Students with good attendance also feel a greater sense of belonging and connection at school. Absences and tardies affect the students’ academic progress and confidence in school.

If a student needs to miss school for any reason, the parent/guardian should contact their child's school office to notify staff the student will be absent and for how many anticipated days. The student or a family member should also contact the student's teacher(s) to make arrangements to make up any missing work.
